I read this book from cover to cover in one day. I'm now on my second reading! Thank you for opening yourself and your story. You have given a voice to many of us who have gone through similar journeys. God has used and no doubt will continue to use you to point to His love, grace, and mercy .
I could not put the book down. I am a very busy nurse and I usually don't have time to read, but I was able to read it quickly. I laughed, I cried and I was uplifted. It always amazes me how God can make a horrific situation turn around and give Him glory. I enjoyed your style of writing and hope you have more to say in the future. I Plan to buy a few more copies for my wounded Christian friends. Many have stopped attending church anywhere because of the pain.
A few months after my own divorce, In the fall of 2005, Carol & I sat in her kitchen, drawn together by a common, painful, bond. She began telling me a story of one instance that had happened to her; I interrupted, finishing her story, yet never having heard her story before. This has become a frequent phenomenon among the women (and a few men) in my life: "HOW in the WORLD did you know what I was going to say?????" That open-mouthed moment of awe, relief, healing and joy, as two people realize that what they have silently & independently endured was real: not a figment of their imagination, not an exaggeration of their overly-hurting heart, not a lie or the result of insanity as people led them to believe; but truth: real, lived & understood by others besides yourself. Our stories are very, very real. They are often too bizarre, horrific & painful to be believed by people who have never experienced these tragedies (and my experiences are cake compared to hers! Hence one reason God tells us not to compare ourselves with one another!). But they are truth, nonetheless. Carol has put these emotions, thoughts and feelings--the before, the during and the after--into precise descriptions. I have not lived her life; she has not lived mine. I can only speak to the slice of her story that echoes my own when I say that she perfectly describes emotions & trauma that accompany domestic and spiritual abuse. Satan only has so many battle plans; GOD created the road to rescue & healing. Thank-you, Carol, for being a voice for the voiceless; God's messenger of hope & healing to the broken; and God's harbinger of warning & repentance to those who inflict pain -- who often, deep inside, are hurting just as much as those they wound.
This book isn't only about God and/or religion. It details the struggle of someone who's been thru something so horrific that it literally ripped her life & family apart. It also details how that same person is slowly, little by little, coming back to living a full life. Anyone who's been thru a life changing event can benefit from reading this. It gives hope, and by the end of it, you'll be standing up, cheering for all Carol's overcome.
Loved the book, uplifting and encouraging. Very helpful for people coming out of difficult churches and situations.
Carol trusted us with her past and allowed us into her pain -- and showed us the redeeming love of Jesus! If Carol can forgive then so should we. Love this book, not only because it was written by a dear friend, but because it allows us to get up close and personal. Carol takes us on a journey, where God is waiting with open arms to restore and refresh. Well done Carol, well done!
I told the publisher this book was a masterpiece and indeed THE MASTER reigns in Carol's victorious journey. Her sharing found me all over the emotional spectrum-tears,laughter,questions and amens.I was ministered to through prayer, confirmation, prophetic words and gifting. As Carol,I too am so thankful for where I've been to where I am today. All by the grace of GOD.As she attests to HIS transforming love and a grace walk so abundant,I say "Yes & Amen". The cost of her book is a small investment with eternal rewards.
